Tastebuds

My doctor is making me drink Slim-Fast to fill in the gaps when I don't feel good enough to eat anything. I just tried it for the first time. I popped open the can, took a sip, and thought, man, what does that taste like? Chocolate soy milk? Brown rice syrup? Scalded milk?

Close, but no cigar. Then it came to me. What it tastes like is the milk left over from a bowl of Cocoa Puffs.

I think this is moderately disgusting, but I'll drink the darn stuff. Doctor's orders and all that.

Spring semester started today. The two classes I had today were fantastic. I'm a big nerd, but I'm sure that comes as no surprise to anyone.

When I had my wisdom teeth removed and I couldn't eat for a while, my doctor recommended I drink Ensure. I actually liked some of the flavors pretty well, and I see their website will give you a coupon for a free sample. Just a thought in case you get tired of the Slim-Fast.

My mom made me drink it back in high school when she thought I was going to wither away to nothing. I remember it tasting pretty weird, but not quite as sweet as milk duds. Then again, the American taste may have become sufficiently refined in the intervening decade so as to reject anything not sufficiently HFCS-laden. Although I'm sure they don't actually put any in Slim-Fast... but somehow, the idea of trying to naturally mimic the taste of an essentially artificial sweetener wouldn't really surprise me. Anyhow :) I hope it helps!

I think probably what I'm tasting is the combination of cocoa powder and very large quantities of vitamins. Like the vitamins they spray on breakfast cereals these days. By the end of the can, I'd kinda gotten used to it.

I like Carnation Instant Breakfast better than the Slim-Fast.
